As you start planning your Thanksgiving dinner, don’t forget the TWO important steps:

  1. Defrost your frozen turkey.

  2. Order your Thanksgiving dinner sides from Comfort Keto.

How Long Does It Take to Thaw a Frozen Turkey in the Refrigerator?

Even experienced home cooks are often surprised by how long it actually takes to properly thaw a turkey.

As a general rule, allow about 16 hours of refrigerator thawing time for every 4–5 pounds of turkey. That means a 15-pound turkey may take nearly two full days to thaw safely in the refrigerator.

The good news is that once fully thawed, your turkey can safely remain refrigerated for another two days before cooking.

We do not recommend thawing a turkey on the countertop, as this can allow harmful bacteria to multiply rapidly. While some people use faster methods such as warm water or microwave thawing in a pinch, the safest and healthiest method is still slow thawing in the refrigerator.

How About the Side Dishes?

Preparing a true Thanksgiving feast takes time. Realistically, the ultimate Thanksgiving dinner can require 10+ hours of prepping, cooking, and baking — not including grocery shopping.

Ideally, planning and preparation should begin about a week in advance to reduce stress and help everything come together smoothly on Thanksgiving Day.
